Chapter 12 - The Meadows Summary
In Chapter 12, Dawn waits more than an hour before Luther comes to pick her up to take her to The Meadows. Dawn asks what her aunts are like and Luther tells her it would be best for her to discover that on her own. Dawn expects a rich country plantation but what she gets is a huge house that is only a shell of what it was at one time. Dawn sees the same iciness in Emily's eyes as in her grandmother's eyes. She takes Dawn to a closet-sized room with no windows in which she is to stay. Once in the room, Emily demands that Dawn take off her clothes so that Emily can see how far along she is. She is told to dress in a gray cotton dress and her clothes are taken away...
