Summary
In Chapter 10, on the ride to Thistle House Charlotte told Emmy and Julia that she was a 66-year-old retired schoolteacher. She lived with her younger sister, Rose, who was disabled. Thistle House was a century old and had been in her husband’s family since it was built. Charlotte quizzed the girls on what they liked to do in their spare time. Julia told her about Emmy’s brides. When Emmy explained she’d had a job at a bridal shop that she had to leave, Charlotte’s sympathy was sincere. Charlotte offered to show Emmy her wedding dress and how the styles had changed since that time.
