The Ninth Summary
Piedmont is hosting a tea for the honors students they are trying to woo in New Jersey. It's being held at a district attorney's home who is an alumna of the university. Jessica's parents are forcing her to go but when she comes downstairs, her mother tells her she cannot wear what she's wearing. Mrs. Darling pulls one of Bethany's old suits out of Jessica's closet and forces Jessica to wear it.
When they arrive at the home of the DA, Jessica notices that there are only girls in attendance. When she mentions this, the DA explains the Piedmont separate-but-equal policy. The dorms for girls and guys are separate. Everything is separate, but the classes are coed. Jessica runs into Call Me Chantalle, her roommate from the writing program.
