July The First Summary and Analysis
Jessica Darling, the narrator and main character, is attending a special writing program. She mentions she has to keep a journal for the program. She used to write all the time, but shredded her previous journal covering her sophomore and junior years of high school. She says her best friend, Hope, moved to Tennessee after her brother died of an overdose. She also mentions a boy, but won't mention his name. Jessica says she won't talk about him or she'll have to burn this journal too.
