Part 1: Chapter 4 Summary

Ross shows Rod van Vleet the evidence he has garnered from the Pike property. It does not prove much, leaving van Vleet unhappy and determined to find someone else who can rid the property of the ghosts. As they are talking, a group of workers come into the office and complain of flies in their ears that say chijis, or baby in Abenaki language.

Ross spends two days at the emergency room hoping to find Lia there. Instead, Shelby finds Ross. Shelby accuses Ross of making her worry on purpose and of torturing her due to his past desire to commit suicide. Ross tells Shelby about Lia. Shelby finds some hope in the fact that Ross seems prepared to move on with his life finally. In Maryland, On the medication, Lucy sleeps a lot. However, the strange woman has not left...
