Summary
In Chapter 6, “Sorry, No Coloureds,” Vicky came home from the hospital and Adah and Francis were evicted from their apartment. Adah believed this happened because their landlady was childless and she resented Adah and her children. They set about trying to find new accommodations, but numerous ads for living spaces came with the caveat “Sorry, no coloureds” (70). In the meantime, she was taunted by her neighbors and felt distressed. She found an ad without the racist verbiage and called, changing her accent so the woman who answered might not know she was Nigerian. The woman told her the rooms were still available and invited her to come look at them. Adah and Francis went together.
