Summary
Part V, Confirmation, continues with Chapter Twenty-Six, “Easter Doubt”. In this chapter, the author uses second-person narration that uses phrasing like “it will bother you off and on” (186) to describe encountering her own experiences of painful, embarrassing doubt during an Easter church service. She comments on how hard it is to gather “all the bravery and fortitude and trust it takes” and then whisper one of those doubts “out loud on the car ride home. ‘What if we made this up because we’re afraid of death?’” (187). She writes of the hope that there will be at least “a moment of holy silence” before someone answers or expresses concern about how Easter brunch might be ruined by the asking of such a question, (188), and then offers the assurance that other people are asking the same sort of question and having the same sort...
