Summary
Chapter Ten of Part II is titled “What We Have Done.” In the first part of the chapter, the author lists several acts of violence that Christians have undertaken against those who do not agree with Christian teaching, or practice Christian values. The list begins with tortures perpetrated on non-Christians a few hundred years after Christ’s birth, through Christian advocacy of slavery in America in the late 1800’s, to the passing of Christianity-based, anti-gay laws in Uganda in 2013. After each item in the list, there is the italicized comment “Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy” (74-77). In the latter part of the chapter, the author lists several individuals who stood up for humanity against power.
