The narrator describes pre-war life in the city as characterized by vibrancy and tranquil coexistence among inhabitants. However, not only is such peace destroyed by war, but the general infrastructure of the city is destroyed along with the well-being of its denizens.

The war symbolizes the inherent destruction, inclemency, and immorality of violence. After the Syrian Civil War erupted, all forms of fulfillment and peace described by the narrator were destroyed...
