Chapters 14-20 Summary
In Chapter 14, Jesse meets Jenn for lunch, and takes her to Daisy's. As they walk through town to the restaurant, Jesse asks her if she has figured out what draws so many people to Race Week, and she says that it is the Mardi Gras-like party atmosphere. Jesse says that for his department it is exactly like Mardi Gras: full of fights, public drunkenness, and vandalism. When they reach the restaurant the owner, whose name really is Daisy, seats Jesse and Jenn immediately, even though there is a line waiting to get in that stretches around the block, and some people have been waiting for over an hour. By way of explanation Daisy tells Jenn that if she can't get the town's chief of police fed in a hurry, she wouldn't be doing her job.
