Importance: Because the little boy has never watched television before his second trip to the secondary country, he does not entirely understand its design or function. For this reason, when he first sees the monster show, he regards the monster as a sentient creature. His belief that the monster is his friend conveys the boy's imaginative mind. The way that he regards media and technology is therefore determined by his innocence as well as by his parents' representation of reality.
