Summary
The two-year-old boy often hears his parents’ laughing from his room. He does not know they watch television “while he’s asleep” (3). He has never watched television. His parents’ television “is mysterious to him” (3). The screen seems like a mirror. He can see images reflected in it but does not know its purpose or utility.
The television screen is somewhat like the phone screen. The boy sometimes talks to his paternal grandparents “in his second country” on screens (3). His mother is from the country where the boy lives and his father is from “his secondary country” (3).
