Summary
Marion felt blissful after kissing Val in "Marion: The Plunge." She walked away from the Kingshead stables in the night until she heard a nearby horse. Disturbed, the horse kicked at its fence as "a weight hit the ground" behind her (204). She received the message to run as the bone cry erupted in her ears. The horse broke through the fence, and an "electric charge" shot from the ground, pushing her forward (205). She ran after the horse, blacking out and regaining consciousness on the north side of the island. She watched as the horse broke its leg, then jumped off the cliff into the ocean. The bone cry became a "white-hot silence" shrouded in static, and when she opened her eyes, she was on a strange, snowy beach (206).
