Chapter Twenty Eight through Chapter Thirty One Summary
In Chapter Twenty Eight, the group continues to travel toward Lester's last destination. Fish rises when he smells a large body of water, but Mibs reminds him that he has his savvy scumbled. When Lester announces they are almost to Carlene's, Mibs is furious having had to listen to Carlene's voice belittle Lester the entire trip. She tells Lester that Carlene is cruel. The voices of Rhonda and Carlene become louder and more cruel until, finally, Mibs screams to stop. She frantically tells Lester to stop listening to Carlene, because she is the one who left his dog on the side of the road and she is a bad person. Lester sits quietly for a few moments.
