Individuality
The author’s decision to make Becca the only girl in a set of quadruplets allows the reader to understand the importance of individuality. Becca is close with her brothers and does not feel differently from them because of her gender, yet she does feel lost. Becca sees her brothers as each having an identifying characteristic: K.C. has science; Jammer has hockey; and Bailey has music. It is important for Becca to find something that defines her so that she can be herself, but also be part of their group.
Becca’s reliance on meditation demonstrates the importance of thoughtfulness. Becca wants to be good at meditating, but it is the meditation that allows Becca to be good.
