Summary

Chapter 24 is titled “The Factory Farm.” Becca and her brothers go into one of the farm buildings. It is a long room with mothers and piglets in cages. Becca is shocked by the size of the mothers, finally understanding how large Saucy will be eventually. The animals are living in their own filth. K.C. vomits from the stench. They are all shocked at the conditions and how scared the animals look.

Jammer declares that they have to try and save some of the piglets and struggles to open the gate. The piglets start squealing and the children take as many as they can. Becca feels like the animals know they are being left behind. Becca promises one of the sows that she will make sure the piglets have a good life.
