Summary
In Chapter 2, as Henry readies himself for the day, he thinks of his daughter Daisy. She has been studying abroad for the past few months, but she has returned and will be visiting the house today. Henry has missed her greatly. Henry never read much literature before he had children, but Daisy loves literature and often suggests books for him to read. Henry has an appointment to play a game of squash against Jay Strauss, an American surgeon who is a colleague of Henry’s and works in the same hospital. On the television, Henry sees many anti-war protesters beginning to gather in London for a large, planned protest against Britain’s decision to join the invasion of Iraq.
