Sarah - "Sarahland"

In "Sarahland," the narrator Sarah is a young woman attending and living in an all-female dorm. She is part of a clique of girls, all named Sarah, but she feels alienated from the others because she does not share their ambitions or values. Rather than attending college simply to attract a husband, Sarah wishes to become a marine biologist. It gradually becomes apparent that Sarah is attracted to women, though she does not seem to understand this about herself. She feels drawn to another girl in the dorm named Sasha, who is queer, and she becomes jealous when she sees Sasha with another woman. Yet she never outright admits to the attraction or jealousy, suggesting that she is unable to process this information about herself. At the end of the story, Sarah is sexually assaulted.
