Summary

Chapter 20 takes place on Thursday. The family makes a plan for the day and Rocky makes sandwiches for everyone: the order has become more complicated by the arrival of Mort and Alice who add their own requests and preferences to the list. Chapter 21 returns to the summer Jamie was five. Nick and Rocky went to a pharmacy to collect Rocky’s medication. The pharmacist mentioned that she had taken this medication before, the previous year. Rocky looked at Nick to see his reaction and told the pharmacist that it was a mistake.

Chapter 22 returns to the present day. The family goes to the beach. Willa reminds Alice to drink enough water. Rocky remembers finding it difficult being on the beach with Jamie when Willa was still a baby because she was so tired. Rocky takes a walk with Jamie who lets her...
