Summary
In Chapter 10, Sil drags Lela for some distance, intending for her to join his family. When they arrive at his destination, several other Mazikin emerge – an old woman named Doris, a young girl named Lacey, a huge Samoan named Chimola and a creepy, lecherous man named Juri, who recognizes Lena. He has haunted her in her dreams about the city and now tells her that she will be his. Suddenly a dark-skinned teenager appears, apparently in a daze like most people here. When the Mazikin approach her, she pulls out a blade and begins skillfully fighting them off. Malachi appears, and a battle ensues with Malachi eventually being bitten by one of the Mazikin, whose saliva is poisonous. Lela learns that the girl’s name is Ana and she is a colleague of Malachi’s. Lela’s leg has also been cut, but...
