Summary
In Chapter 6, Lela notices how different this city is from others she has lived in or visited. It is dark. There is no transportation; and, the only sound is that of people muttering to themselves and the clang of the gate opening to welcome new suicides. She finds a food store where she learns that the food is free; but, it is old and inedible. She shows the tattoo of Nadia to many people but no one knows where she is. An old man grabs her wrist and says, “You’re perfect.” Then, she is captured by a guard who thinks she is a Mazikin. She manages to stab his leg with the knife she stole, but then she is knocked unconscious.
Chapter 7 opens with Lela awakening in a dank cell. A couple of guards see that she is awake, and she hears...
