Chapter 8 Summary

It is late at night and Ben is at home asleep when Eva wakes him up with a call from Matt. Matt wants him to come over right away and bring a crucifix, a rosary, or a St. Christopher's medallion. Eva loans Ben her husband's crucifix, and Ben goes to Matt's house. Matt explains everything that Mike told him and everything that has happened. Matt says he thinks that Mike is dead, but he has not checked yet.

Matt and Ben go upstairs into the guest room. Mike looks so lifelike that it is difficult for Ben to believe that Mike is not sleeping. He is unable to rouse him, however, and finally admits that Mike is dead. Oddly, there are no longer any puncture marks on Mike's neck.
