Summary
Bridget is the character of focus in Chapter 19. Bridget waited outside the funeral home while her aunt, Kitty, smoked a cigarette. She took the opportunity to ask if Nora really did have a sister. Kitty said she did and Bridget was hurt that Kitty had never told her. She also assumed it had been something terrible that had caused the two sisters to be estranged. Kitty explained it was a scandal when they learned Theresa had run away to become a nun. She said she did not know why Nora had kept Theresa a secret, especially when Patrick deserved to know. Realizing her mistake Kitty said all of the children deserved to know about Theresa. Kitty was shocked when she learned Theresa was coming to the funeral.
