Chapters 17 and 18 Summary

Katie goes back to the three days before she left New England. Her husband, Kevin, drops her off to get her hair done. With about 12 minutes left after she gets her hair done and before it's time for Kevin to pick Katie up, she slips into the Radio Shack next door to the hair salon. She buys a disposable cell phone and adds some minutes to it.

Katie leaves Radio Shack and goes back into the salon. She tells the girl who did her hair that she forgot to get her card. Kevin pulls up in the parking lot at the same time. Katie goes out to meet him. Kevin pulls into the driveway and unloads the groceries, while Katie hands him the receipt from the hair salon and the change. Money is tight and Kevin keeps tracks of every penny...
