Chapters 1 and 2 Summary

Katie is working at a restaurant as a waitress. She thinks about when the owner hired her, how she almost cried, grateful for the job. She also hadn't eaten in two days at that point. Ricky, the cook for the restaurant, had asked Katie out a few days ago but she said no. He is always offering to drive her home, too, but she always says that walking is good for her.

Melody points out that one of the guys in town scouting locations for a movie is looking at Katie. Katie says she didn't notice. Melody also says she heard Ricky asked Katie out and that Katie said no. Melody suggests she and Steve double date with Katie and Ricky. Katie says she doesn't date people from work because she had a previous bad experience.
