Summary
Liz moves back to Denver from Los Angeles without telling her mother exactly why she is moving back. Her mother seems to understand that Liz got herself into some kind of trouble and she welcomes her back home. Her mother urges her to find a new job that she can be proud of and put the past behind her. Liz meets a girl on the roof of her apartment building, Monica, and sees her again in the park the next day. She asks Liz for help cleaning out her late husband’s things from her apartment. Liz and Monica grow closer and share more details about their lives with each other. Monica reveals that she had a baby when she was seventeen that she gave up for adoption.
Liz remembers the way her father used to hit her mother before he left them...
