Summary
Cora and Alejandra check the chalkboard at the senior home while their father, a maintenance man, works. Cora asks her sister if she thinks their father loves one of them more. Their mother has breast cancer, and she stays with a woman named Miss Cynthia who lives near them. The girls struggle to understand why their mother cannot live with them, but her health and lucidity has declined. When they return home, their father tells them that another man at the nursing home died today all alone.
The girls walk over to Miss Cynthia’s house to visit their mother and Alejandra is disturbed by how stale and sick her mother smells. Cora convinces Alejandra that they should take their mother away back home with them. They pick her up but are unable to carry her. She screams and cries until Miss Cynthia...
