The Forbidden Rock
This is one of the highest points in Clifton Village. Children and adults are not allowed to go up on the rock because there are cameras there. Also near the rock is a manhole that connects Clifton Village to the visitors' center.
Haunted Trees
The children of Clifton are told that the trees in the village square are haunted so that they will not go near the trees. In reality, visitors can purchase seats inside of the trees so they can get a very close view of the lives of the villagers.
Telephone
Throughout the entire first half of the novel, Jessie is searching for a telephone so that she can call Mr. Neely. Jessie has no idea what a telephone looks like and struggles to find one.
