Chapters 12 - 15 Summary

In Chapter 12, Jessie is still trying to figure out a way out of the bread truck. She is being thrown all over the back of the truck. The driver hears her and stops. He gets out to check the back of the truck, but before he can find Jessie, she leaps out of the truck and rolls into a ditch. Jessie feels badly for getting the driver in trouble, but she has to get out of Clifton to save her family. Jessie begins walking along the highway. Luckily, she finally sees a sign, North 37, just like Ma said she would see. She slings her pack over her back and begins walking towards the sign, hoping that she will soon be able to help her town and the rest of her family.
