Chapters 9 - 11 Summary
In Chapter 9, Jessie continues with the tour group. They visit the village center where the haunted trees surround the square. The tour guide tells them that they can rent the trees and stand inside them while they view the villagers. The tour guide also says that the villagers moved to Clifton knowing they were being watched by tourists. They agreed to it so they could live the life they wished. Everyone has total privacy except for common areas. Next, the group visits the village school. The 1996 children begin to make fun of the 1840 curriculum. Someone comments on the fact that so many children are missing from school and the tour guide simply says that there are "some germs going around." Jessie knows this is not true, but must stop herself from saying anything. Nicole asks Jessie to go to the gift...
