The Farm
The farm is a significant setting because it is where Clark and Carla both live and work. Clark owns the farm, and he and Carla offer trail rides to patrons when the weather is nice. They also board horses there. The farm comes to represent the dynamics of Clark and Carla's marriage, as Clark approaches Carla as if she were another animal to be tamed and looked after. He attempts to control her and force her to do things she does not want to do – like extorting Sylvia for her husband's past actions, which Carla actually fabricated. The farm becomes a place where Carla witnesses firsthand Clark's controlling behavior and attempts to free herself from it.
