Summary
The story begins with Carla, a young woman, watching a car traveling up the road. She is certain that it is Sylvia Jamieson returning from her trip to Greece. She is able to see inside the car briefly, and confirms that it is indeed Sylvia. Sylvia's expression as she passes Carla's home is one of hopefulness and curiosity, but Carla quickly hides from her view. Carla thinks to herself that perhaps Clark, her husband, does not yet know of Sylvia's return. She is certain, however, that he will find out soon.
