Summary
Ed told Dee he intended to drive to the Bozeman Airport and hope he could find a plane to take them across the Canadian border. They took back roads to the airport. Just as Dee was beginning to contemplate the idea that she and her children might reach safety, Ed slammed on the brakes. Before Ed could even put the Jeep in reverse, he was shot dead through the windshield. Gasoline poured from one of the cans on top of the Jeep when it was punctured with a bullet. Dee knew if they did not get out of the Jeep they would be burnt alive in it. Cole warned his mother that all the men had lights around their heads and shoulders.
