Summary
An unnamed woman arrives at an abandoned airport. A young man tries to talk to her but she asks to be alone as she ducks under crime tape surrounding a pit. There are people excavating what appears to be a mass grave. As she watches a woman putting together the skeleton of a child on a dark velvet cloth, the woman realizes she is crying. She is almost overcome by what she experiences, but works to regain control of herself when she sees Sam, the Australian team leader, walking toward her. He says they have pulled about twenty-nine skeletons out of the pit already and suspect there are the remains of about 175 more people there.
Sam tells her most of the people were killed by gunshots but there were also signs that the people — both adults and children — had been dismembered. He explains...
