Summary
As Chapter 1 opens, Simon Greene is at Central Park's Strawberry Fields, where a young drug addict is singing one of the Beatles' songs. Simon barely recognizes the girl as his oldest daughter, Paige, who had come to this very park with Simon and the other members of their family as a child. Paige had been interested in the inscriptions on the benches in the park. Six months earlier, Simon's wife Ingrid had insisted that they stop trying to help Paige. Ingrid said they could not save Paige until she chose to help herself. Simon continued to search for Paige, usually when Ingrid was at work and would not know.
