The Department of Ichthyology
The Department of Ichthyology consists of six rooms located beneath the Museum of Comparative Zoology in Boston. The cells are brick-walled, and each consists of a maze of metal shelves upon which are stacked jars of fishes from the floor to the ceiling. Altogether the Department contains 1.3 million dead fishes suspended in alcohol. Some fish have been recently discovered, while some were discovered as far back as the 1700s.
