Chapters 14-16 Summary

Carla is relaxing at Lucas's cabin and accepts his offer of staying there longer. Lucas is at the cabin with her when he receives the call about another killing. Lucas calls Annie McGowan with the news and tells her that they were expecting him to kill a hooker and then leaves for Minneapolis. He drives to the crime scene and leans that the killer left the door ajar after the killing and the curious clerk knocked and found the body. From the way she was tied, she didn't struggle so they figure she was paid for bondage.

The police question Vincent Short, the motel clerk, but he claims he doesn't know anything. Lucas finds out who Heather's pimp is. The police will pick him up for questioning but then find out that he has left town.
