Chapters 40-47 Summary
With no other leads, Alex and Betsey begin reviewing files of unhappy dismissed employees of the bank as well as people who have sent hate mail to the banks in question. One man, Joseph Petrillo, stands out to Alex as a possible suspect. Joseph Petrillo wrote hate mail to Citibank weekly. He had been employed as a security officer and was recently fired. Alex and Betsey arrive at his house and identify themselves on Petrillo's landing. They never speak to him though. Their announcement is followed by gunfire. Once local police backup arrive, Alex and Betsey enter the house. They discover that Petrillo had committed suicide. He died with a depleted bank account and surrounded by his nearly starving cats.
