Part Two: Hate Mail, Chapters 21-29 Summary
Jannie is safe at the hospital so Alex returns to work for an abbreviated day. The crime scenes are so grotesque that Alex feels compelled to solve the case before the perpetrator strikes again. The Mastermind thrives on the confusion his plan creates. The crimes seem related, and yet each scene is different. The turmoil generated makes the Mastermind feel powerful and the detectives frustrated. The Mastermind searches his computer for his next team. They have to be very skilled. For this job, he reviews their criminal records like a hiring manager would review a resume. Meanwhile, Alex, assisted by Kyle and Betsey, works hard to locate him.
