Part One: The Robbery Murders, Chapters 3-4 Summary
Chapter three opens on a party scene. The main character, Detective Alex Cross, has gathered together with his longtime girlfriend Christine Johnson and their collective friends and family to celebrate the christening of their son, Alex Junior. The mood is jovial. Alex's daughter, Jannie, plays with the family cat while singing her rendition of "Roses are Red". Alex's grandmother, affectionately called Nana, has cooked a wonderful meal for the special occasion. The combination of great food, upbeat music, and a little karaoke makes the party a success. The mood is dampened by the arrival of Kyle Craig from the FBI. Kyle Craig is Alex's fellow officer. He arrives with balloons and a christening gift, but Alex knows that his arrival is a bad omen.
