Summary
April 24, 1945 – Rose opens this entry with a poem titled “Air Raid at Ravensbrück,” describing the prisoners hiding in a ditch from “our brothers-in-arms” (158). then, she describes the air raid in prose. When the sirens went off, the prisoners had to lie on the ground on their faces. Instead, Rose rolled onto her back to watch, and she thought about how young American boys were in those planes, carrying Hershey bars, “looking down at the same scene I’d looked down at a month ago” (159).
Then, a woman near Rose stood up and saluted the airmen flying above. Then, she began to sob. Rose called to her to not cry, and as they began to talk, they determined that they were both pilots.
