Chapter 21 Summary and Analysis
Chapter 21, p. 320—Richard's command over SEAL Team Six runs out in July 1983. He is getting low fitness to command reports from his administrative commander Ted Lyon, but reports of praise from Vice Admiral Johnson, under the influence of Richard's friend Dick Scholtes. Johnson praises Richard, saying that Richard is doing the right thing in his unit. Richard is in trouble because he has offended Special Warfare commanders all over the United States. The change of command where Richard leaves the unit is very quiet since this is still a secret unit. Richard is angry that after his departure, SEAL Six becomes more conventional, with less effective dirty-looking disguises used by the men.
Richard thinks he can now attend the War College, but he hears whispers from his friends that he is about to be barred from it. Richard is told...
