The Campaign Trail

The campaign trail is the most significant setting in terms of length of pages devoted to this setting, and also makes up the last third of the novel in Part III, “The Front-Runner” and Chapters 5 - 7 (229). This setting represents the culmination of all of the major themes and motifs. Part III opens in 2015 as Hillary is at one of her rallies in Iowa, running for president for the third time. This part and setting follows Hillary across the country - traveling with her staff, staying in hotels, meeting with voters, speaking at rallies, interviewing on a variety of television and digital shows, preparing for debates, strategizing on her campaign, fundraising, getting her hair and make-up done, and more. These places around the country most prominently include Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Cedar Rapids Iowa, Truro Massachusetts, Las Vegas Nevada, and home in Chicago.
