Altamaha River
The Altamaha River is a river located in Georgia that empties into the Atlantic Ocean. For most of Hiram’s life, he worked as a fisherman and deckhand on the Altamaha River. After his death, his sons Lawton and Hunter take a five-day journey down the river to scatter Hiram’s ashes into the ocean.
Fort Caroline
Fort Caroline was a 16th-century French colonial settlement located somewhere in northern Florida or southern Georgia. After the French expedition arrives on the mainland, they go to Fort Caroline and use it as their base of operations. They are eventually driven from Fort Caroline by Spanish conquistadors.
