Summary
Chapter 55 returns to 1565. The Frenchmen rejoice when the resupply ships from France finally arrive. The ships are captained by Jean Ribault, who led an earlier expedition in 1562. Chapter 56 returns to the Loggins brothers on the fifth day of their journey. They return to their boats, and it seems at first that Hiram’s ashes are missing. Then they see that they are tied for safety in a nearby tree, presumably by Uncle King. They take the ashes, board their boats, and continue down the river. Chapter 57 returns to 1565. A week after Ribault arrives, Spanish ships attack Ribault’s ships. The Spanish then establish a nearby settlement and prepare to attack Fort Caroline. The French, including Le Moyne, board their warship and sail for the new Spanish settlement in order to launch an attack. Chapter 58 returns to the Loggins brothers. They continue down the...
