Summary
By the beginning of Chapter 41, Becca has reached Parker's house, where a couple of jack-o-lanterns glare at her. He is there and sees how frantic she is. Becca realizes that she dropped the Ruger somewhere on the way to his house. Becca finally sees "the old Parker in front of her, not the cop" and closes her eyes, only to see that "Parker was wearing his cop face" (292). He is also wearing a wrinkled T-shirt. Becca thinks that this looks good on him and prefers it over "Matt's constantly polished appearance" (292). She tells Parker that Clint is dead and shows him the eyewitness statement she found in Clint's locked box. She admits she never took the opportunity to ask him who gave the statement. Parker suspects that one of the locals gave the statement and were too afraid to identify themselves...
