Summary
Chapter 9 introduces the reader to Detective Parker Reed. Parker is investigating the case of the body that washed ashore in Portland. This is his first time as a lead detective. This is also the first mutilated corpse Reed has ever seen. Parker does not wish to speak to the reporter who questions him. Parker does not currently have a partner, and his temporary partner, Bill, reminds Parker that a similar murder was committed 20 years before.
Meanwhile, Becca calls the clinic to find out how the dog, Maggie, is doing. She then watches the news with Jackie and Clint. They see the report on the murder. The reporter interviews Paul, the man who found the body. He seems reluctant to say much and turns away from the camera. Becca's fear increases as she realizes that she might have seen John disposing of the body...
