Summary
In Chapter 17, Azurite: Memories, Release, Mysteries, the novel shifts back in time eighteen years to when Charlie is eighteen. The older Benedict cares for Charlie and handles everything he can around the house, ranging from packing Charlie’s lunch for school to paying the mortgage. One summer day, Benedict suggests that Charlie call Amelia and the three of them go on a picnic in Scarborough. It is there that Charlie says he and Amelia will go to America to stay on her parents’ farm. Benedict is stunned by this. Charlie says it is because he feels he needs to get away from Noon Sun, the house, and from Benedict. Charlie says he wants to take a chance.
