Macomb, Georgia

The primary location of the book is in Georgia. The opening scene and ensuing battle with the Ku Kluxes occur in Macon, Georgia which is described as a sizable city, but not one that attracts the Klan attention that larger cities attract. The location is notable because it contains Stone Mountain where a showing of the inflammatory film, Birth of a Nation occurred.

Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain is a real location in Georgia. It is a large stone mountain with Confederate leaders etched on its side. A real Klan meeting occurred there. It is here that, in the novel, Butcher Clyde showed the film, Birth of a Nation. It is also here that the large battle takes place between the Ku Kluxes and Maryse and her partners.
