Rilla and Jims' fortunes change forever when they attempt to go to Charlottetown for some shopping. At the very last minute, Jims falls off the train and Rilla must follow him. However, because it is beginning to rain, they have little chance of making it back to Ingleside safely before morning. Knowing that one of her friends lives nearby, Rilla takes Jims to the house and they sneak in through a window when it appears that nobody is home.
